June 7, 2012 – Ft. Lauderdale, FL................OUR LAST POST
I am writing the last post as the Crew Imagine!
Imagine will soon be named Crow’s Nest by her new owners and we are now the Land Crew Imagine. It
is so hard to believe that this is the end of our adventure. Although I am thankful, that we sold Imagine
so quickly, I am also sad that it’s all over. When we bought the boat on my 40th birthday,
I absolutely never dreamed that I would feel like this when we sold her. To be honest, I thought that I’d
be begging to get off of the boat a year into the cruising lifestyle.
It probably seems strange to all of you but Imagine was much more than a boat to
us – it was a home, a shelter from the storm (literally), transportation, and really an identity. In
the cruising world, no one knows us as the Adams’ Family, we are the Imagine Crew.
We have shared so much on Imagine: we have
cruised for 3 years, 9 months, 16 days, sailed 38,150 miles, spent 236 nights at sea, visited 42 countries, celebrated 20
birthdays (four for each of us) and many holidays, lost a lot of baby teeth, caught many, many fish, and most importantly
made 1000’s of memories.
So as Marc pulls
away from the dock sailing with Yoshi, the new lucky owner, to Deleware, the kids and I wave goodbye to her for the last time.
Thanks Imagine, you served us well!!!!
So what’s next for the crew??
As Marc sails to DE, the kids, Fred (Marc’s Dad), and I will pack up a moving pod to be shipped to Indiana with
our life’s possessions for the last four years. Then the kids and I will rent a car and start driving
north to spend time with my family in Kentucky and Indiana prior to Marc’s arrival. After that, we
are still unsure but it looks like a summer tour of the western US will be the final cap to the adventure. We
are all looking forward to being close to our family and friends but also nervous about life on land. For
now, the plan is to return to our beautiful, old brownstone in Chicago and begin our “old” life anew so the kids
can start traditional school in the fall. After spending the last almost four years in this cruising lifestyle
how will we adapt back into the “real” world with jobs, school, traffic, and schedule. Well,
I guess that is the next chapter in the adventures of the Crew Imagine…..I am sure that it will not be boring.
